Supex 500 is a water-based acrylic gap sealant for uPVC windows, doors and general construction joints. It provides strong adhesion, a smooth finish and a non-sag application that works well on vertical joints. The cured seal can be sanded and painted for a clean, professional finish.
✓ Paintable and sandable
✓ Suitable for uPVC & aluminium window joints
✓ Non-sag application
✓ Strong adhesion to multiple building surfaces
✓ Low odour / water-based formulation
✓ Suitable for gap filling and construction joints
Window installation often leaves small gaps between the frame and the surrounding wall. These gaps need to be sealed properly before they become a source of drafts, dust, moisture entry or an untidy finish.
Supex 500 is designed for this type of application.
It can be used for sealing gaps around uPVC and aluminium windows, including joints between window frames and concrete, masonry, granite and other compatible building surfaces. Supex’s application guidance specifically recommends Supex 500 for uPVC-to-concrete gaps up to approximately 5–6 mm and for aluminium channel installations.
Not every window joint needs the same type of sealant. If the joint needs a clean, paintable finish, acrylic sealant can be a practical choice.
Supex 500 combines gap-filling performance with a finish that can be sanded and painted after curing.
Unlike standard silicone sealants, Supex 500 can be painted after curing.
This makes it useful where the seal needs to blend with the surrounding wall, plaster or frame.
Supex 500 is suitable for sealing gaps around uPVC and aluminium window frames and other building joints.
The sealant can be applied to vertical joints without readily flowing or sagging.
Supex’s current product information lists compatibility with materials including uPVC, aluminium, wood, concrete, plaster, tiles, masonry and granite. Always perform a compatibility test for a new substrate or production application.
The sealant can be tooled during application and sanded/painted after curing, helping installers achieve a neat finish.
Supex describes the product as water-based with low odour and zero-VOC positioning.
Supex 500 is suitable for a range of window and construction substrates.
| Surface | Typical application |
|---|---|
| uPVC | Window and door-frame gap sealing |
| Aluminium | Window and channel joints |
| Concrete | Frame-to-wall gaps |
| Brick & masonry | Window perimeter sealing |
| Wood | Door, frame and construction joints |
| Granite | Aluminium channel/granite joints |
| Plaster | Interior finishing and crack filling |
| Tiles | Suitable gap/sealing applications |
| ACP / panels | Selected construction applications |
The Supex technical information supports applications across uPVC, aluminium, concrete, wood, masonry and other building materials. For unfamiliar substrates, Supex recommends testing before large-scale use.
Seal the joint between a uPVC window frame and concrete or masonry wall for a clean, paintable finish.
For gaps up to approximately 5–6 mm, Supex’s published application guidance recommends Supex 500 directly.
Use Supex 500 for suitable joints around aluminium window frames and channels, including aluminium-to-concrete and aluminium-to-granite applications.
Supex 500 can also be used around uPVC/PVC door frames and other suitable building joints.
The acrylic formulation can be used for selected internal cracks, joints, skirting and trim applications.
Supex lists HVAC duct sealing among the product’s additional applications.
Remove dust, dirt, grease, oil and loose material. The surfaces should be clean and dry before application.
Cut the nozzle at the required angle and opening size. Load the cartridge into a suitable caulking gun.
Apply a continuous bead along the window-frame joint. Avoid leaving gaps in the bead.
Smooth the bead before the sealant becomes tack-free. This creates a clean and professional joint.
Remove excess uncured sealant during finishing.
Supex lists a tack-free time of approximately 15–60 minutes at 25°C and 50% RH, with a cure rate of around 2 mm per 24 hours. Actual curing depends on joint thickness, temperature and humidity.
Once fully cured, the seal can be sanded and painted where required.
Choosing the right sealant depends on the joint and the environment.
