Supex 574 Gasket Sealant

4/5

Supex 574 is a medium-strength anaerobic gasket sealing compound designed for machined, rigid metal flanges. Supex flange sealant is widely used in automotive, industrial, and mechanical applications for creating flexible, leak-proof seals.

Key Features of gasket sealing

  • Anaerobic cure: Cures in the absence of air and in contact with metal.

  • Forms a flexible seal between close-fitting metal surfaces.

  • Fills gaps up to 0.25 mm (0.01 in).

  • Excellent resistance to oil, coolants, and industrial fluids.

  • Eliminates need for pre-cut gaskets, reducing inventory and waste.

    Uses of Supex 574

    • Sealing rigid metal flanges and housings (e.g., gearboxes, pumps, engine covers)

    • Automotive and heavy machinery

    • Marine and power generation equipment

    • Replacement for paper, cork, and rubber gaskets

    Technical Specs:

    • Color: Orange

    • Cure type: Anaerobic

    • Fixture time: ~1 hour

    • Service temperature: -55°C to +150°C

    • Gap fill: Up to 0.25 mm

    Benefits of gasket sealing:

    • Prevents leakage and loosening due to vibration.

    • Resistant to oil, water, and fuels.

    • Can be automated or manually applied.

    • Long shelf life when unopened.

How do anaerobic sealants cure?
Anaerobic adhesives, also known as gasket sealing compound, are single component materials which cure in the absence of oxygen and in the presence of metal ions (iron or steel). If the adhesive is in contact with the air, the adhesives will not cure. When the adhesive becomes completed deprived of oxygen, the curing process begins rapidly.
What is the purpose of anaerobic sealant?
Anaerobic sealants, such as flange and thread sealants, strengthen joints and seals in systems with mechanically locked structures. They create seals through the hardening of resins and chemical compounds, but only in the absence of air. As long as anaerobic sealants are exposed to air, they will not harden or cure.
What is the difference between silicone and anaerobic sealant?
Both can be used for gasket sealing
Anaerobic Adhesive: Cures in the absence of air, triggered by metal ion contact, suitable for sealing between metals. Silicone Rubber: Cures at room temperature without the need for metallic catalysts, suitable for a wide range of materials.
Is anaerobic sealant fuel resistant?
Forms a tough, insoluble, vibration-proof seal. Allows for easy disassembly of parts when required. High-speed curing time without shrinkage and resists galling and seizing. Resistant to petroleum, butane, propane, natural gas, water, steam, refrigerants, chlorine, acids, oils, gasoline and more.
How long does anaerobic sealant take to cure?
Typically, RTVs require a minimum of two hours to set up and 24-hours to achieve the full cure that’s needed before adding fluids or returning the vehicle to service. Anaerobic flange sealants and gasket makers need about an hour to cure.
