What are glues/ adhesives ?
Glues are also known as adhesives, cement, mucilage and paste. it is any non metallic substance applied to one or both surfaces of two separate items that binds them together and resists their separation.
Why do you use sealants? Purpose of sealants?
Because of micro movements, vibrations, weather changes, pollutants, noise, internal work and painting Joints are leads to various stresses. Such stresses lead to cracks, leakages and joint failures. To avoid this we require robust sealant which can withstand /sustain stress causing factors.
What are the different types of sealants?
Silicone sealant, Polyurethane sealant, Acrylic sealant, Hybrid MS sealant, High temperature sealant, Fire stop sealant, foam sealant, PUF sealant, Expansion joint sealant and gap filling sealant etc
What is a waterproof sealant?
Sealant that remains elastic under prolonged exposure to water. Generally waterproof coatings fall in this category. Silicone and PU sealants are good water barriers but not meant to be constantly in water contact.
What is an acrylic sealant?
Acrylic sealant is a water based material used in a wide range of applications. It seals all types of joints & prevents seepage or leakages. The drying or curing time for acrylic sealant varies according to the humidity and temperature. In addition to building joints, rubber-like sealant is used around windows and doors as well as to seal foundation cracks. Gaps in building siding can also be sealed with acrylic flexible sealants. Acrylic sealant is paintable, has FR version also for fire retardent joint sealing applications.
Is primer required on a porous substrate?
If there is a possibility that the surface gets wet, the use of primer is necessary. In that case you get a better adhesion and protect the sealing against the water pressure that can appear. However acrylic sealants work well on dry porous substrates being water based sealant.
What is a suitable sealant for sealing Air Ducts?
Air ducts leakage cause pressure losses, contamination of air in building, energy loss due to overworking of HVAC equipments. Most air ducts are made of galvanized steel or aluminium or aluminated textiles. Because of the steel, we need a non corroding sealant. Acrylic sealant is the first choice for such applications. Other is Neutral cure silicone sealants though expensive than acrylic sealants.
What is the best sealant for gap filling in uPVC door and windows?
Acrylic Sealants is best because of its high gap fill ability, flexibility, UV resistance, Low cost, Long life and they are paintable.
Which is better, Tile glues or cement?
Tile glues have better tensile and shear strength, hence thin layer of adhesive is enough. More stable and stronger laying of tiles.

What is a PU sealant?
PU Sealant is a one-part, elastomer sealant based on urethane which cures at room temperature. It is mainly used in applications relating to assembling and sealing. For these applications, the product is referred to as adhesive sealant or polyurethane adhesive sealant.
The main attractive features of PU sealant is its good resistance to impacts and vibration due to its elasticity (the product can be used to assemble materials with different coefficients of thermal expansion), and its impressive mechanical performance.
What is Polyurethane sealant used for ?
Polyurethane sealant is for sealing & bonding.
Sealing- PU sealant has large gap filling capability & is flexible. It is used for sealaing construction joints. Eg: Expansion joints
Bonding: PU sealants are versatile bonding agents too, it can bond most substrates including metal, composites, FRP, Gypsum, plastics, Concrete, glass etc. Hence it is used extensively for automobile body building, Windscreen bonding.
How to use Polyurethane sealant
Clean the surface thoroughly with a wire brush, cotton cloth or chemical like acetone. Avoid petrol, diesel or kerosene. Surface should be free from oil, dust and foreign particles.
Cut the tip of the sausage and insert it into the nozzle.
Load the sausage into the barrel of the applicator.
Sealant can be extruded using the trigger.
For joint sealing the sealant can be spread using squeeze
What is a PU foam spray sealant?
Polyurethane Foam spray is dispensed as a frothy liquid which expands and cures into a solid foam (like Thermocol) insulation and sealant.
Types of Adhesives / glues
Adhesives can be defined on the basis of chemistry, curing method, applications or industry served.
- Chemistries: Epoxy, PU, Anaerobics, Cyanoacrylates, acrylics, MMA, Silicones, Hot melts, Rubber adhesives, PVA, Starch based etc
- Curing type : Water based, Reactive adhesives, Hot melt adhesives, solvent based etc
- Industry: Automotive, construction, General industrial, Electronics, MRO, Consumer adhesives
What is a 1K PUR adhesive
1K PUR adhesive is a one component Polyurethane adhesive that cures in contact with moisture. 1K PUR has excellent boiling water resistance.
FIELDS OF APPLICATION
- Edge to Edge Joints
- Finger Joint Applications
- Different Joint applications like Tenon and Morist Joints, Tongue and Grove Joints. Typical applications are in making frames of window, door, and wooden staircases where it gives an exceptionally high mechanical strength.
- Bonding of MDF board Joints
OTHER AREAS OF APPLICATION: Meant for bonding wood, MDF, fiberboard, particleboard, metal, laminates, stone, ceramic, brick, foam, fiberglass, marble,
leather, cork, drywall, mirrors, fabric, plaster, plasterboard, masonry, rubber, someplastics and many other substrates.
