Product description

Supex GP0416 Structural Bonding Adhesive – High-Strength 2-Part MMA Glue

Supex GP 0416 is a high-strength 2-part MMA adhesive designed for demanding structural bonding applications. It provides exceptional bond strength, durability, and impact resistance, making it ideal for industrial assemblies where mechanical fasteners or welding are not practical.

Formulated with advanced methyl methacrylate (MMA) technology, Supex GP 0416 delivers reliable performance across a wide range of materials. It creates strong structural bonds while allowing some flexibility to absorb stress and vibration.

What is Structural Bonding?

  • Structural bonding uses high-strength adhesives to join materials (metals, composites, plastics) in load-bearing assemblies.
  • The adhesive transfers stress/load uniformly, becoming integral to the structure’s integrity.
  • It replaces/reduces mechanical fasteners (welding, rivets, bolts) for permanent, durable joints.
  • Bonds withstand shear, peel, impact, and environmental stresses without failure.

Benefits of MMA (Methyl Methacrylate) Adhesives

  • Fast cure: Rapid room-temperature “snap cure” (minutes to handling strength).
  • High strength: Excellent shear (up to 20–23 MPa), peel, impact, and fatigue resistance.
  • Versatile bonding: Joins dissimilar materials (metals to plastics/composites) with minimal surface prep.
  • Tough & flexible: Rubber-toughened for vibration/shock absorption and thermal expansion.
  • Advantages over alternatives: No heat distortion (vs welding), lighter weight, corrosion resistance, improved aesthetics, and cost savings in assembly.

Structural Bonding vs Welding/Riveting: Why Choose Supex GP0416

  • No Heat Distortion Structural bonding (Supex GP0416): Room-temperature cure, no heat-affected zones. Welding/Riveting: High heat warps thin metals, alters material properties.
  • Join Dissimilar Materials Supex GP0416: Bonds metals to plastics/composites effortlessly. Welding/Riveting: Limited to similar metals; poor on composites/plastics.
  • Weight Reduction & Aesthetics Bonding: No visible fasteners, smoother surfaces, lighter assemblies. Welding/Riveting: Adds weight, visible welds/rivets require grinding/finishing.
  • Vibration & Fatigue Resistance Supex GP0416: Tough, flexible bonds absorb shocks/impact better. Welding/Riveting: Prone to fatigue cracks at stress points.
  • Faster & Cleaner Assembly Bonding: Minimal surface prep, fast fixture (14–16 min), no sparks/smoke. Welding/Riveting: Time-consuming, requires skilled labor, generates fumes/debris.
  • Corrosion Protection Supex GP0416: Seals joints, prevents galvanic corrosion. Welding/Riveting: Can create corrosion sites at fasteners.

Choose Supex GP0416 for stronger, lighter, more versatile, and cost-effective structural joints in automotive, marine, and industrial applications.

Structural Bonding Applications in India: Automotive, Marine & More

  • Automotive Industry Bonding body panels, chassis reinforcements, battery trays in EVs, interior trim, and dissimilar materials (aluminum to composites) for weight reduction and crash safety. Widely used by OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers in Pune, Chennai, and Gujarat hubs.
  • Marine & Shipbuilding Bonding hull sections, deck fittings, fiberglass composites, and corrosion-resistant joints in boats, yachts, and fishing vessels. Ideal for coastal regions like Mumbai, Kerala, and Gujarat shipyards.
  • Transportation (Rail & Bus) Assembling lightweight panels, interiors, and structural frames in metro coaches, buses, and railway wagons for vibration resistance and fuel efficiency.
  • Construction & Infrastructure Bonding facade panels, aluminum cladding, sandwich panels, and precast elements in high-rise buildings and bridges.
  • Industrial Machinery & Equipment Joining metal frames, enclosures, and heavy-duty components in manufacturing, wind energy, and agricultural equipment.
  • Signage & Display Permanent bonding of acrylic, metal, and composite signs for outdoor durability in retail and advertising sectors.

Supex GP0416 excels in these high-demand Indian applications due to its fast cure, high strength, and ability to bond dissimilar substrates without heat or heavy prep.

Frequently Asked Questions – Supex GP0416

1. Can Supex GP0416 be used on painted or coated surfaces?

Yes, it bonds very well to most painted and powder-coated surfaces, provided the coating is well-adhered and not flaking. Lightly abrade glossy coatings and clean thoroughly for best results. Avoid bonding to freshly painted surfaces until the paint is fully cured.

2. Is Supex GP0416 suitable for outdoor / exposed applications?

Yes. It offers excellent UV resistance, weathering, and long-term durability in outdoor conditions, including rain, humidity, and temperature cycling. It is widely used in marine, signage, and exterior automotive/rail applications.

3. How does it perform in high-vibration environments (e.g., heavy machinery, vehicles)?

Supex GP0416 is rubber-toughened and has superior fatigue and impact resistance. It maintains bond integrity under continuous vibration and cyclic loading better than many rigid epoxies.

4. What surface preparation is absolutely required?

Surfaces should be clean, dry, free of oil, grease, dust, and loose particles. Use IPA/acetone for degreasing. While minimal prep is often sufficient on metals, light abrasion (180–240 grit) significantly improves bond strength on difficult plastics and composites.

5. Can it be painted or coated after curing?

Yes, once fully cured (24–48 hours), most industrial paints, primers, and powder coatings adhere well. Always test compatibility with your specific paint system on a small area first.

6. Is Supex GP0416 food-safe or potable-water approved?

No. It is an industrial structural adhesive and not certified for direct food contact or potable water applications.

7. How long can mixed adhesive be used before it starts to gel?

Working time (open time) is approximately 8–12 minutes at 25°C. Higher temperatures shorten this time significantly. Plan to apply and clamp/assemble within this window.

8. it bond to low-surface-energy plastics like PP, PE, PTFE?

Without primer or surface treatment, bonding to untreated PP, PE, and PTFE is very poor. Use a suitable primer (contact Supex for recommendation) or mechanical abrasion + specialized surface activation methods to achieve good bonds.

9. What is the maximum gap it can fill effectively?

It fills gaps up to 4 mm with excellent strength retention. Larger gaps (>4 mm) may result in reduced mechanical performance — use a higher-viscosity grade or filler in such cases.

10. Is Supex GP0416 available in smaller trial/pack sizes?

Yes. Apart from standard 50 ml + 50 ml and 400 ml + 400 ml dual-cartridge kits, smaller trial kits (e.g., 10:1 or 50 ml sets) are available for testing and small-scale projects. Contact Supex for availability.

For projects that demand dependable structural bonding, GP 0416 delivers performance you can trust.
